Working in a variety of mediums, including sculptural installations and photography, Hollerer’s art is characterized by its attention to detail and fast reactions to existing situations within an architectural setting.
In his artistic work, Hollerer deals with ever-changing, dynamic urban environments, their provisional character and perpetual movement.
Construction sites to him appear as a symbol of upheaval within permanence, an increasing affirmation of transformation process, flexibility and mobility of life and work in our society. He is interested in the interplay of exposure and concealment, the breach in what is otherwise a systematically constructed cityscape.
In his photographic work he follows people in this temporary microcosm, exploring their social position. He captures their imperfections and spontaneous actions and tries to deal with irrecoverable courses of time.
Architecture in transition influences his careful color choices, his sensitivity to the everyday, the equation of figuration and abstraction and his simple monumentality.
After Hollerer had studied photography at the Euregio College of Fine Art Photography, he enrolled in the postgraduate program of the HISK – Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp from 2006 – 2008. At the HISK he got involved with painting, installations and sculpture.
His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and numerous locations in Europe.

At HUNTING AND COLLECTING (17, Rue des Chartreux) in Brussels, Clemens Hollerer presents a new work that deals with borders in public space, alternative approaches to urban environments and the everyday voyeurism of the urban dweller.
The site-specific installation ‘The beauty of the beast’, based on photographic records of public spaces is specifically created for the window of HUNTING AND COLLECTING.
An installation of Clemens Hollerer will also be on view in the exhibition ‘WITH YOUR EYES ONLY’ at the YUM (directly across from the WIELS Contemporary Art Centre). This large-scale project, organized by the CCNOA – Center for Contemporary Non-Objective Art, opens on May 27th, 2010 at 18.00 and will remain on view through July 7th, 2010. Given the size of the Brussels venue (1200 m2) and its unusual architecture, the second edition of WITH YOUR EYES ONLY will not only be the most daring project the CCNOA has realized to date but will also present completely new site-specific works by all the participating international artists on a scale commensurate with the location.
