Stéphanie Oberg was born in Munich, Germany and grew up in the country side.  She studied in Hamburg, graduated in 1999 and lived and worked in Hamburg and Berlin as a freelance designer and stylist before starting VON SONO collection continously in 2004. Since 5 years, she lives and works in London. Between 1999 and 2003, she was assistant and freelance designer for Kostas Murkudis, Closed, Bless and Cacharel,
and launched don’t, a group project. don’t created products used in every day life, jewellery, shoes, clothes,…, 
produced in a series of limited editions, exhibited at: Fanclub Amsterdam, Portikus Frankfurt, Hinterconti Hamburg,… In the meantime, she founded in 2001 her Von Sono project with donkey blankets, hand embroidered and appliqué duvet covers. The project became more important and becomes Von Sono in 2004.

Style:

Von Sono always succeed in creating conceptual clothes that anyone can wear. Her collections question scale, form and gender. Delicate, billowing shapes with fascinating textural details characterize the brand. Stéphanie always works from a shape, 2 dimensional drawing becomes 2 dimensional pattern and then a 3D piece of clothing. She is interrested in which shapes you can wear and what they become produced in different fabrics/ textures, how the movements are changing, how it hangs differently on the body. She is interested in classic tailoring and that is why she concentrates more on fabrics and textures, trying to keep the shape classic and modern at the same time.

“Thinking about higher power Thinking about the past and thinking about the future, thinking present. Presently there is a lot of power, I can feel it right here. It’s confusingly subtle but just listen for 3 seconds… can you feel it too? I know what happened in the past. I know I can’t change it, it is now part of the history and will be always influencing the future. Higher power has once again turned everything upside down. Extra power has made things happen, where does it come from. I had the feeling it came from everywhere, it is just there from nowhere, all of a sudden and stays.

Makes me feel very light — taking the darkness away. Sensing senses. From the darkest of dark. Like dark dark dark to a very light light, almost transparent like a warm summer morning with a pale blue sky.
