Soulland

Origin: 2002, Copenhagen, Denmark

Designer: Silas Adler

Field: Menswear

Bio:

Soulland’s head designer, Silas Adler (b. 1985), founded Soulland in 2002 and what started as a small company spe- cialized in print t-shirts has now grown into a well-established menswear brand recognized worldwide and represented in leading stores across Europe and the USA.

Jacob Kampp Berliner joined the team in 2007 as Soulland’s main investor. Today, Jacob is Soulland’s full-time CEO and head of sales.

Soulland’s design esthetic is rooted in traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship and through great attention to the detailing of the clothes, classic menswear is reinterpreted with a present-day esthetic. This approach is recognizable in key Soulland items such as the Adler Fedora, which merges a classic fedora hat with a baseball cap, and in the Bomholt pants with elastic ribs.

In 2008 the Scandinavian fashion community acknowledged Silas Adler’s work with nominations for best Danish up-and-coming designer by Danish Fashion Awards and Scandinavian talent of the year by the Swedish Plus46 Award. And with six consecutive shows at Copenhagen Fashion Week and a presentation during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in June 2010, Soulland has made considerable noise to much critical acclaim from the Danish and International fashion media.

Style:

The Soulland style is classic menswear reinterpreted with a present-day esthetic. The approach is particularly recognizable in a key Soulland item such as the Adler Fedora, which merges a classic fedora hat with a baseball cap. Soulland started in the skate scene and the playfulness from this time still comes across in the clothes even-though we’ve transitioned into more traditional menswear.

SS12:

The Postmodern collection references post inspired items like the striped mailman shirt, the mailman blazer and Post Danmark logo sweaters. I really enjoy working with uniforms but it can leave a collection looking a bit hard, so I softened up the feeling for spring/summer by adding roses to the inspirational mix” – Silas Adler, Soulland.

“With Postmodern we’ve been working with classic colors like black, white, navy and red. The contrast between red and white plays an important role for the overall visual look of the collection and there’s some yellow in there as well – inspired by Post Danmark’s logo. For the upcoming season we’ve also been working with prints and em- broidery and I’m very pleased with the result, especially with the printed shirts and embroidered sweatshirts. Overall the collection is very summer” – Silas Adler, Soulland.

ILLESTEVA X SOULLAND COLLAB:

This is the first time Soulland and Illesteva have worked together and the collaboration has result is two frames, Albert and Lili. The frames come in beige, black and earth tone and both shades are inspired by Soulland’s spring/summer 2012 collection, Postmodern. Soulland and Illesteva have extended the collaboration to the iconic Soulland Adler fedora, which is available in grey and purple tones to go with the Illestevas spring/summer 2012 collection.
