Biography:

The Croatian-born designer grew up in Germany and studied fashion in Munich and Berlin, where he graduated in 2004 with magna cum laude for the best collection.

The young designer then went to Antwerp, where he worked for Raf Simons and Dirk Schoenberger. It was his time spent at Raf Simons in particular that broadened and shaped Doma’s perception of fashion and the arts. Under Simon’s mentorship, the creation of his personal aesthetics was kindled; leading him to infuse soulfulness and sensitivity into his work.

In 2006 Damir Doma started working on his own collection. After joining Paper Rain in 2007, he made a promising debut during the paris fashion week, where he presented his first menswear collection in June of that year. A strong following has ensued since, which has translated in commercial success in leading fashion boutiques around the world.

In October of 2009, the first collection of SILENT was introduced. This collection, created by Doma, offers a line of accessible basic mens- and womens garments and accessories, suited to a high-fashion aesthetic.

Style:

SILENT is the casual collection, created by the acclaimed Parisian avant-garde label Damir Doma. Renouncing decorative elements, the designs centre on pure, soft shapes and fluid volumes.

First presented in October 2009 during the women’s fashion week in Paris, SILENT offers a beautifully finished range of jersey’s, knits, and woven pieces as well as leather, and woven jackets, shoes, bags and accessories made from carefully selected materials.

As the antitheses to loud mass-market fashion of today, the SILENT designs avoid excessive elements whilst retaining as much of the fabric’s raw & organic form as possible. The result is beautiful and the loose fit allow the wearer look effortlessly styled.

Fall/Winter 2011 Collection:

SILENT products are imbued with an intrinsic understanding of pure, discreet design fused with the raw finesse of tactile, engineered fabrics. A quiet evolution through cloth. For Autumn Winter 2011, SILENT weaves a textural array of elegant, flowing materials that reveal a new synthesis of transparency, layering and technical detail. Accents of plum heather, iris and raspberry are balanced with stony grey and onyx black for a deep tonal palette – a rich backdrop for winter’s heavy wools, coated cottons and leather.

SILENT’s signature twisted seams are adapted to substantial winter textiles, just as both mens and women’s styles carry innovative hidden closures and adaptable, asymmetric draping. Elbow inserts allow a new ease of movement, while fabric and leather buttons streamline the looks on pure, minimalist silhouettes.

Viscose, technical silks and silk crepe add a luxe softness to cowl neck styles, bomber jackets and shift dresses, while experimental techniques in jersey knits allow garment dying to reveal unique, irregular stripes.

Knitwear is defined by specially developed zig zag stitch, further pushing technical boundaries and new angles.

SILENT reinforces a relaxed vision in exceptional design – renouncing decorative elements for pure, soft shapes and fluid volumes.

“Silent is the state we are in when we are freed of thoughts, of noise or of any other distraction. It is in silence that we can clear our minds and focus on details that would otherwise be overseen. Confronted with a world that becomes more noisy every day, we can close our eyes and hear the music behind the roaring sound of a city -the enduring play of silence and sound. For it is when we are silent, that we can truly admire and embrace the essence of something. We are left in state of purity and peacefulness, open to embrace the surrounding.” Damir
