Biography:
Petar Petrov is a Bulgarian designer based in Vienna, where he studied under Raf Simons at the University of Applied Arts. Petrov has headed his menswear collection since June 2003 and launched his first womenswear collection to critical acclaim in January 2007.
Style:
Characterized by an attention to purity and simplicity of form, Petrov’s collections aim to create an easily-wearable elegance devoid of ideological concepts. Inspired by cultural contrast and the combination of high and low, the goal is a modern aesthetic that is easily wearable and yet complex, a clean-lined elegance that doesn’t try too hard, and most importantly, reflects the vitality and energy of life itself.
Fall Winter 2011 collection:
“I always pay attention to purity, simplicity and craftmanship in my designs… It is about finding new ways to combine well known fabrics and textures cutting them in impeccable shapes. It is about modern aestetic that is easily wearable and yet complex, a clean-lined elegance that doesn’t try too hard, retaining our typically easy-going, boyish ideal with a real sense of sophisticated luxury.
For the FW 11 collection I give a spezial attention to all sorts of coatings, giving them spezial structires, colours an shapes. The volumes are more loose, generous and layered. The suits are relaxed and the pants are baggier and looser.
The shirts are sheer and close to transparent. The colours are in the autumnal shades, mainly blue and black but punctuated with burnt red mustardy yellow and orion blue, all combined in unusual subtlety. The very structured and technical fabrics are opposed to softer natural or naural treated cottons and wools and ultra soft baby calf leathers with light wool paddings or soft fur. The knitwear is close to the body and made out of the finest soft baby alpaka wool, also combined partly with soft leathers.”
