Origin: New-York, 2007
Designer: Jennifer Behr
Field: Hair Accessories
Bio:
Jennifer Behr started hand-stitching headpieces and hair accessories when she was still a student of art
history and sculpture in Baltimore. While their popularity eventually justified the opening a tiny shop dedicated to her custom creations, this was to be but the beginning of an exciting millinery career. She soon went on to design a hair accessory collection for celebrity hairstylist Frederic Fekkai, under contract with Chanel. When this line was discontinued, an esteemed buyer at Bergdorf Goodman encouraged Behr to continue with her own label; she has not looked back since.
Materiality is always the point of departure for Behr. She is naturally drawn to luxurious textures: silks,
feathers, stones, pythons and leathers are often featured in her designs. And while she uses traditional
handwork details and construction techniques, she nonetheless brings a truly modern sense of femininity and glamour to her work. This ability makes her creations a natural choice amongst Hollywood’s A-list celebrities and a favorite amongst the editors of W, Elle, and Nylon, who have featured her designs on several occasions
Style:
Jennifer Behr introduced her collection of distinctive, wearable bridal accessories in 2007. Each season she incorporates only the finest materials to make elaborate silk flower headpieces, modern tiara shapes, lace edged veils, hand-set Swarovski crystal headwraps, intricate combs and crystal encrusted satin belts. The collection suits a modern bride, looking for the best for her wedding day.
Jennifer Behr pieces are made by hand in her studio and within a network of small workshops in Brooklyn and Manhattan. This results in accessories carrying the soul of handwork, while remaining thoroughly modern in appearance.
Jennifer’s designs and quality of workmanship have made her a favorite of celebrities, including Natalie Portman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Keri Russell, January Jones, Alexa Chung, Diane Lane, Nicole Richie, Amy Adams, Oprah, Jennifer Lopez, Winona Ryder, Lauren Conrad, and Leighton Meister.
Her fashion and bridal accessories have graced the pages of renowned publications such as Vogue, W, Italian Vogue, Japanese Vogue, French Elle, Elle UK, Elle US, Gentlewoman, Teen Vogue, Brides, Harper’s Bazaar, Martha Stewart Weddings, the Knot and the New York Times. She has also collaborated with Diane von Furstenberg and Fendi on pieces for their runway shows, and designed many of the headbands worn on Gossip Girl.
