Bio:

Susanne Ostwald was born 1979 in Leipzig, Germany and has an MA in Fashion Design from the art college Burg Giebichenstein in Halle. Ingvar Helgason was born in 1980 in Reykjavik, Iceland, studying Fashion Design in Copenhagen and working as a tailor in Iceland followed by time spent at St Martins in London.

They work as a team on the overall look of the collections. Individually, Ostwald takes inspiration from fine art, Helgason from new technology, creating an arresting combination of the natural and the hi-tech.

Style: Focus is on unexpected detail and subversive use of colour and pattern. Using print combined with tactile fabrics and experimental processes, Ostwald Helgason create modern, effortless clothes with clean, structured lines.

FW12 Collection:

For Autumn Winter ‘12 Ostwald Helgason explore ‘Terra Incognita’, or uncharted lands looking into new territory where monsters inhabit the sea and brightly coloured ships sail though Arctic lands. Fiction meets fact with mythical sea creatures coming to life and playful map-like prints lying side by side with nautical stripes of varying proportion.
The Ostwald Helgason girl explores the world through books and ancient maps and tackles these unknown lands with curiosity, absorbing tales of adventure from seasoned travellers. She is fearless and eager to measure the world, leaving the city behind for a journey into the wild, this time with Scott and Amundsen for company and a compass in her pocket.
