Thomas Lélu is a rare breed: a contemporary artist striving to access both the cerebral and the emotional by triggering a smile or a laugh.
Simultaneously a visual artist, artistic director and writer, he has published five books over the course of the past decade, the most recent being “Les Tribulations d’Arthur Show,” released on Editions Léo Sheer in 2016. His first book, “Le Manuel de La Photo Ratée,” has stood the test of time as one of the most hilarious publications within contemporary art.
In this series of work called “Overlaps,” he uses extracted magazine content – iconic portrait photos, images of figures of popular culture and the world of fashion – and juxtaposes them with everyday objects, superimposing them to a point of tension. With his images, Thomas Lélu creates his own manipulated universe: an environment distanced from a world all too real.
